Why do we do this?
2008-09-29T11:12:05Z

Saturday was the last official event of the 2008 Public Service season. When I tell people that I spend my weekends support these events, I am constantly told I am nuts or ask why I do it. Why do I support events? This guys and his buddy had planned on doing the 100 mile course and 12 miles into the day the plans changed. We are there for them (the participants). This guys was fortunate and not really injured however we are frequently the first on-scene to much worse situations. In one of the rides that was held back in early August there was a situation that we responded to. The rider us ultimately air lifted to the hospital. He is still going through therapy and has recently been cleared to ride his bike again. He is still unable to drive and have little to no memory of the ride or the day of the accident.

I am a member of a team of volunteers that give their personal time and commitment to helping other people. We might not all be able to donate money to various causes but each of us give our time and commitment to make these events safer and more enjoyable for each of the participants. This year I spent over 261 hours and drove more then 3579 miles for these events and I look forward to doing it again next year...

Well the Wasatch100 is over and it will be another year until we return to Clayton Peak. We start things off with the hike and finish it all off by hiking back up and getting the equipment.

We had a great event this year and it was obvious that all of our hard work had paid off. We had several thing that we need to address for next year and will start working on them right away.

The winner of the Wasatch 100 this year was Geoff Roes with a total time of twenty hours, one minute and seven seconds. I am amazed every year at the runners that cross the finish line. It is really amazing and I am glad to be a part of it...

Wasatch 100 is upon us!

Today after work, we officially kick off the start of Wasatch 100 weekend. A group of us will be hiking up to Clayton Peak to place some communication equipment for this weekends endourance run. This equipment is vital to our ability to track runners in and out of every aid station over the 100 mile course. Once this equipment is on the mountain we will do soem testing to make sure it is operational and then head back to Salt Lake. Then tomorrow we head up to the finish line area in Midway, Utah to start the setup of more communication and network equipment. Then we will be live starting early Saturday until late on Sunday. All of the runners results throught the event are posted online so families and support teams can keep track of their runners.

A map of the entire Wasatch 100 couse is available HERE

I had heard that there was an international Sheepdog contest here this weekend and thought it would be fun to see. So yesterday we headed up to Soldier Hollow to check it out. It was really neat and the dogs are amazing. You can see additional pictures HERE.

Why does Wendys on 3300 south by REI give you a new cup when you ask for a refil. It seems like such a waste!
