Wasatch 100 Radio Staff Geocache
2006-09-27T15:56:00Z

That's right, it was officially found for the first time (FTF) as of today at 13:45 Mountain time. Congrats to Scubadog who left the following comment:

As a former Wasatch 100 runner (11 starts, 6 finishes, last finish was in 2001), I was inspired to make the trek before the snowfall. I parked in Snake Creek Canyon and followed the dirt road/trail up then hiked over to the cache. That description makes it sound simple but the way up is very steep about halfway to the ridge. I was concerned about pockets of snow obscuring the trail but that wasn't much of a problem today. Once at the cache I was sure hoping it would be on a southern exposure so when my GPS pointed elsewhere, I groaned. However the cache was fairly easy to find and wasn't covered with snow. Time to the cache was 1:45. Time running back to the car in Snake Creek canyon was about an hour. Hard hike up and fun run down. I left a fresh set of batteries. The TB is alive and well waiting for the next adventurer.

Thanks for all your radio help with the race. I feel that because of your efforts monitoring runners, this is one of the safest, although brutal, of the 100 milers. Your group provides invaluable service to us all. Thanks again for being there.

Lab Re-Organization
2006-09-26T14:13:14Z

Last week my team and I went through a major re-organization of our lab. It had really gotten out of control over the last 2 years and needed a bunch of help.

We removed all the hardware from the six racks and totally re-cabled everything. As you can see in the picture, everything is nice and organized now. I didn't get a before picture, but just to give you an idea, you couldn't close the doors on the cabinet. Yea, it was that bad...

Cables...

This is the bad part of the lab... All the cables... They are everywhere...

New Lab

So we have so much hardware now, we are taking over a third location in our building. This entire week is dedicated to relocating hardware and getting the new lab online...

Can you find me now?
2006-09-15T17:29:20Z

So I have decided that half of the fun of Geocaching is finding the hidden treasures; the other half is hiding stuff for people to find. Today marks the publication date of my first hide in the Geocaching world!

"GCY739"

This cache is titled >"Wasatch 100 Radio Staff Geocache" and was hidden by Taylor, Mike and myself and is dedicated to all the runners that attempt the Wasatch 100 each year!

The cache is hidden near Preston Peak (10,300 feet) about 1/2 mile west of the Snake Creek Express lift house at the Brighton Ski Resort in Utah. It will most likely not be accessible in winter due to snow cover and in the summer requires quite a hike as the lifts are not running.

Best of luck to all who choose to go after this one...

I am off...
2006-09-11T15:35:59Z

Well the Wasatch went well and I am on my way back to Dallas. So here I sit listening to the airport police get dispatched to gate C5. Apparently somebody was making comments that made a flight crew uneasy. They were going to meet the guy at the gate...

Special Day

Same van different day...
2006-09-10T16:02:25Z

Well we are on the way to the finish. There are about 57 runners still out on the course.

A Wet Run
2006-09- 9T19:53:17Z

Looking at the radar it looks like it might be a wet night for the runners. As if the 100 miles wasn't bad enough...

Nap Time
2006-09- 9T15:07:42Z

So Mile and I are on the late shift tonight and so being that I will be up all night, its map time. As you can see, some of my gear is also preparing...

Its raining!
2006-09- 4T18:51:30Z

We really needed the rain, but it cramps Rays outside activities...

Geocache number 45!
2006-09- 3T18:13:34Z

Wow, I just realized that I have now logged 45 geocaches...

And this one couldn't have been a better one for number 45. This cache is titled "I hear the train a-comin" (GCQ25Y) and is located on a train that the city of Frisco is in the process of restoring.

I have been to this site four times for a total of several hours of looking for this one and finally found it today. As usual, I was making it much more difficult than it actually was. Well that any my GPS was putting me about 50 feet to the south of the actual location...

Anyway, one of the times I was searching, Ash was with me and we meet one of the guys restoring the train. He told us all about it. So a little known fact straight from the guy... This is not actually a Frisco Engine. They were looking at two different Frisco Engines but they were is so bad condition that it would not have been feasible to bring them back to Frisco. So this Engine was built at the same time Frisco had their engines built and as part of the restoring process they put "FRISCO" on the side. Eventually this location will be a full outdoor museum that will cover the history of Frisco and the various railroad activities...

It was going to be cooler today...
2006-09- 2T12:14:36Z

So the weather guy said we were going to cool off and only be in the 80s for the weekend. We we quickly reminded that 80s + humidity, still = hot! We went on a hike at a near by park and took Radar with us. We were not even out of the parking lot and Ash was already giving him water.

Needless to say we found a small stream for him to cool off in... In his words "this is the best idea yet!"

Why does Wendys on 3300 south by REI give you a new cup when you ask for a refil. It seems like such a waste!
