SOLD!

Ok, so we have put off the big announcment for long enough... We sold our house!!! Thanks Jeff and Trisha! We ar so excited and are now really looking forward to moving into the new place. There is a small period of time that we will have to be in an apartment but that will be fine... We are now in the process of getting everything packed up and ready for storage and the apartment.

So I guess an update on the new place is necessary. Well at this point, we still just have dirt. They estimated that they would break ground after the 4th of July weekend so... Last week they broke ground on a house across the street so it will be a good guage of the timing on our place. Of course, it all depends on how many guys they have working on any given day. At any rate, it will probably be November/December before the house is ready.

In addition to selling the house, there is a ton more going on in my world right now. The next biggest thing is related to podcasting. As you may know, I have fallen in love with podcasts and am totally obssesed with them. So much so, myself and one of my co-workers have started our own cast and it is now online. You can check out our website: www.sabagsecurity.com and please feel free to subscribe:

So my co-worker Jim and I are off and doing this thing now and loving it. We are planning on releasing every Monday and are currently looking for feed back and questions, so please send them in to us... Also if you dont already know iTunes now supports podcasts and today released version 4.9.

Hummm, what else... Well I am going to go shoot IDPA tomorrow, which is something I havent done forever so that should be fun. It is going to be what they call a "low-light" match. That is where they basically turn off all the lights and we work the stages in the dark, using night optics and flash lights. Anyway...

So things here are going good. Ash still loves her job, and I am still busy as ever... So, with that I close and wish you a fear well....

Ahhh is good to be home...
2005-06-17T 3:59:38Z

Well I am once again back home sleeping in my own bed. I will say though that the bed in Scottsdale was very comfortable. But what is it with nice places charging for everything? You would think that a resort like The Phoenician would include some stuff in the cost of the room. I have grown OK with paying $9.99 per day for internet access (although I think it should be included, like the lights and AC are). However, at the resort, they charged $20 per day. They did offering remote printing services so I could print out stuff and pick it up at the front desk, but they wanted $1.50 per page Black & White....What a rip! To top it all off, Cabs are not allowed to wait on property, so they only have limo service to the airport, you can imagine what that cost me...

Anyway, lots of good stuff happening here. We will have a big announcement in a few days or so, we are just waiting for a few things and then we will let everybody know. So we are excited.... Oh and to stop the concern; no Ashley is not pregnant. So check back in a few days and we will have it here.

Anyway, that concludes this update about nothing and a small rant about expensive hotels, oh well, maybe my update will be better next time... I am uploading the vacation pictures, so you can take a look at them, and that might make things better...

NetSec 2005
2005-06-15T 5:41:04Z

Hello from Scottsdale! I am at the Phoenician Resort for the annual NetSec 2005 conference. I really like this conference but I am not sure about this location. People are also saying it is going to be here next year. I guess it is OK, but I like last years much better. I feel very isolated at this hotel as it is not directly in the city so waling to anything is out. I guess if I rented a car that would be different...

So in my talk today at the NetSec conference I mentioned this little computer I saw online that ran Linux and was only a few inches by a few inches. Well tonight at the CISSP reception (I can go to those now) a guy, I think his name was Brad Smith, introduced me to one of his friends who had one. I put my watch next to it so you could get a feel for the size. It is running linux, has about a 20GB drive and I can not recall what processor. The thing sticking out the side, is an 802.11b CF card. Man this thing was slick!!! The screen even rotated so it would work like a tablet. I loved it!

So tonight at the CISSP reception I meet up with some really nice people. I hung out and had a few drinks with Shawn who has a very cool job and a former work history that is very intriguing to me. I also spent some time with Valerie from ISC2. She knows several of the same people I know in Dallas, including Andrew who put on the ISPC conference in May.

Anyway tomorrow morning I am going to attend the Keynote by Thomas Peltier and then I might go to the airport and catch an early flight... So I will try to recap and update everybody on other stuff tomorrow or Thursday.

We made it...
2005-06- 7T 4:08:16Z

We are back in Big-D now, and man, I need a vacation! We had a great time, but we were doing so much we are both bushed. We got in last night at about 2AM (yup we got delayed in Atlanta, big surprise).

So all total we visited or crossed through 8 states
- Massachusetts (overnight)
- New York (overnight)
- Maine (day trip)
- Pennsylvania (overnight)
- Connecticut (cross through)
- New Hampshire (cross through)
- New Jersey (cross through)
- Rhode Island (cross through)

So wow, it was a great time but it is good to be back. I will be posting pictures to the pictures page within the next few days. I am running a really old version of PhotoShop (ugh) and have to manually modify each picture to get them to a smaller size. Anyway...

During the trip we had several long car rides, air travel and one 6 hour train ride. During that entire time i was listening to podcasts. I love podcasts, they are truly great! Right now they are still really grass roots and have not gone totally mainstream (commercial) so they are still cool. However, as more and more corporations are picking up on the cool factor, I am hearing more and more commercials spring up.

Here is a quick listing of some of my more favorite podcasts that made it possible to travel:
Daily Source Code
Slashdot Review
this WEEK in TECH (TWIT)
Geek Speak Radio
Geek News Central
The Dawn & Drew Show
And of course... 2600: The Hacker Quarterly

Oh, I finished reading "On Bull Shit" by Harry G. Frankfurt. It was a bust. I really didn't care for it and thought it was a bit of a let down. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't what was delivered. So now I am on to the much more serious and 'Nothing's Sacred' by Lewis Black.

Ok, that is enough for now, I need to go to bed and Ashley owes me a back scratch...
