Another great day!

Another great day!

Today was another great day in Boston. We started off by visiting the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and then went on to MIT Museum. After that we came back to the hotel and had a little break and then headed over to my uncle's house to meet up with my parents and Lois and Helen. Both Lois and Helen are long time friends of our family and I maintain a special connection with Helen (If you don't already know about this, please feel free to ask me). After meeting up with everybody we headed out to Zon's for dinner.

Anyway, tomorrow we are off to do a bit more shopping and sight seeing in downtown Boston...

Here we go again...

Well I am leaving again. Lets hope this trip is a bit more smooth. I am connecting through Atlanta so will see...

A quick recap...
2005-05-24T 4:54:10Z

Wow, so this weekend was not the best for me as you can probably tell from my last few posts. So here is a little recap of all the happenings:

Airplane delayed due to "Flow Control" in Atlanta
Stuck on tarmac for hours
AC on airplane was broken
Record high of 98 degrees that day
Got clearance to leave and an equipment issue was found
Returned to the gate
Part was replaced and finally took off
After 7 hours on the plane I arrived in Atlanta
I headed to the rental car place and attempted to check in
Found out my drivers license was expired
They cant rent cars on expired licenses
Returned to Airport and waited for a cab
Spent $80 cab fair to my hotel
Went to bed
Got up the next morning and walked to the clients data center
It was only about 1 mile but it was raining
Worked at the client site for several hours
They took me to the train station
Spend $1.75 to get back to the airport
Train went out of service and I had to wait an hour for another one
Finally arrived at the airport
Got on an early flight
Flew home without issue
Got to my car and couldn't get in (bad key)
Ash came with new key, dead battery
Left the airport and went to dinner
Returned to the airport on Sunday with jumper cables
Realized half way there we didn't have the good key
Returned home to get the good key
Got the key
Drove back out to the airport
Finally got home with both cars

Anyway it is all over now, thank god for that! It got to the point it was almost funny. I am really glad I had a hotel that was close to the clients data center or it would have been a real pain! The walk was actually refreshing. The area had a lot of trees and the rain cooled it off quite a bit...

Got my CISSP certificate today in the mail, so now I am truly official. You can even search their site for proof (https://www.isc2.org/cgi-bin/cert_verification.cgi).

I just finished reading (listening to) 'The Future of Music: Manifesto for the Digital Music Revolution' by Dave Kusek and Gerd Leonhard. It was really good and very thought provoking. It presented a great concept appropriately dubbed 'Music like water' in which the authors are suggesting music rights be granted like water rights are granted. People never "own" the music, they more or less rent time with it. It's a good read and I would suggest it to anybody that is interested in the future of the music and recording industries.

My next two reads I got for our vacation are 'On Bullshit' by Harry G. Frankfurt and 'Nothing's Sacred' by Lewis Black. Both should be interesting and fairly humorous, I will be sure to let you know...

Well I am looking forward to my vacation, I will post a bunch of pictures as we travel the coast...

Thats it, I quit!
2005-05-23T22:44:10Z

So just before I went to Atlanta I took my car to the dealership and found out my key wouldn't open my doors (I always use the remote). So upon getting back to my car, I can not open my doors. I just called Ash and she is on her way with another key. What are the odds?

Back in Dallas, for now...

Back in Dallas, for now...

Made it back to Dallas. The client was happy so... Anyway, only 5 days until I fly again, but this time will be for fun!!!

Just when you think...

Just when you think...

Just when you think it cant get any worse, it does. The pilot just announced that there is a problem with the navigation equipment and that we can not fly until it is fixed. We will be going back to the gate but I do not know if they will let us off or not...

I think I am in hell!

I think I am in hell!

So I am flying to Atlanta to work with a client. Just as we started boarding they told us there would be a 2 hour delay after we leave the gate. So here I sit (in a middle seat) waiting. To make things even better the AC on the plane is broken, and the people on my sides are not small. The outside temp in Dallas today is 95+, so you can imagine what it is in here. A moment ago a person started to pass out. I know it is bad but I wish she had because then we would have returned to the gate. Anyway I have about another 80 minutes to go, unless we get clearance before then. Man that exit sign is looking good about now...

Interesting stuff...
2005-05-19T 5:03:26Z

Ok so today I was troubleshooting a false positive (we call them incorrect identifications, I think that is so we can say we don't have false positives, not sure thought) and I saw a new statement in one of our signatures. It looked something like this: '0x39#0xFE' So doing some quick searching I was able to find out that the '#' means 'AND' and wanted me to AND the two values together. So here is what I had to do:

We started with:
0x39 AND 0xFE =

I converted the HEX to Symbol values
9 AND =

Then I converted those to binary
00111001 AND 11111110 =

Do the quick AND on the binary numbers
00111001
11111110
--------
00111000

Take the resulting answer and change back to Symbol value
00111000 = 8

Convert that back to HEX
8 = 0x38

An therefore we can now say:
0x39 AND 0xFE = 0x38

A special thanks goes out to Nicholas Ciske and his great conversion utility:

Its an addiction.

Ok, so they say the first step is to admit you have a problem, so here it goes...

I am in love with my iPod!

There, that wasn't so bad... Today on my way home I was thinking of ways to get my current playing list and most frequent played songs to be listed on my site. I ended up finding a way to do it but it would have cost me about $500. Wow, that is alot of money you might say, and yea that is what I thought to, but that was just for the Mac to run the free software :)

Anyway, I did find a neat plug in that allows me to just click and it will insert what song I am listening to at the moment. So right now you can see that I am listening to: [Listening to: My Last Breath - Evanescence - Fallen (4:09)]. While this is not one of my favorite songs, it just comes up as I am currently doing a party shuffle. Yup a party of one at just after 23:00 (oh boy).

Anyway some camera crews are coming to my office tomorrow to film some type of promo video. I will try to snap a few pics of there setup and post them. Oh I like this song: [Listening to: NEVER GONNA COME BACK DOWN - BT - Movement in Still Life (Nettwerk) (5:47)]. If you are going to be in Dallas this Thursday come see me over at the Information Security Professionals Conference (ISPC) . I will be doing a talk on Rogue Access Points and how they can be used to steal corporate information and hotspot logins.

Anyway, that is all I have for now... As you were...

[Listening to: Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution - AC/DC - Back In Black (4:15)] - He he, I love this thing...

Future Vision

So this gives you an idea what our place will look like. We still need to decide on colors and stuff, but this is our elevation.

Yup!

Yea, we just put money down on some new dirt. 3410 Somerset Lane is where will call home in 6 to 8 months.

For Sale!

House_sale_small.jpg

We did it! The house is listed and the sign is in the yard. It is hard to believe we are actually going to move, but the time has come. We have found a new neighborhood and will most likely be deciding on a lot this weekend.

So anyway wish us luck and if you know anybody that is interested, please let us know...

Thats one way to do it.

Buy the company writing the books, and BAM your on the cover. This is just about the only marketing I think we do.

Yard Sale!

Yard Sale!

Well today is yard sale day. We opened up at 7am, but our first customer was here at 6:45. It is only about 7:45 and we have had about two dozen people come by.

I am officially clear!

cisspaudit.jpg

I got this great email today clearing me of my CISSP audit, however I am still not a CISSP. I now just have to wait until they print my certificate, and then I can finally claim that I am a CISSP...

This weekend we are having a yard sale (notice I didn't say garage). Maybe we can make a few bucks getting rid of some of our stuff. We have decided that this is good, because if we are going to move in a few months or so, getting rid of stuff only make the process easier.

Anyway, the weather here in Big-D is great, so I just want to get out of the office and enjoy it. Maybe this weekend I will go shoot some stuff at the local range.

Have a great weekend...
