Well not to long ago I transferred from the Anti-Virus Group at work over to another group known as Sniffer. The main though behind me doing this was to better my knowledge of this product grouping, but mostly to get involved with the IPS products. Just about two weeks ago, Management advised my group (Tier II Sniffer) that we would be dissolved and would now become dedicated to the IPS product. Fact of the matter was, I spend the vast majority of my time supporting the IPS product so that was good for me.
Well late yesterday I received an email from our CEO station that the Sniffer Technologies product line had been sold to two investment firms and would be leaving our company. They will be operating under the name Network General, the same name of the company we, McAfee purchased to become Network Associates. The email also stated that the name Network Associates would be going away and we would now be called McAfee Inc. This is probably best as nobody knows who Network Associates is, but everybody knows the name McAfee...
At any rate, I am still safe. We have some meetings today to further discuss these changes. I don't anticipate it will impact me very much, but several of my friends will most likely get hit.
